What is Repair Café?

Repair Café is a global movement that started in Amsterdam in 2009. The concept is simple: bring together people with broken items and skilled volunteers who can help fix them. It's about repairing things together, sharing knowledge, and building a more sustainable future.

Instead of throwing away broken items, Repair Café encourages people to fix them, extending their lifespan and reducing waste. It's also a great way to learn new skills and meet people in your community.

Our Mission

Repair Café Isle of Wight aims to:

  • Reduce waste by helping people repair instead of replace
  • Share repair skills and knowledge within the community
  • Build connections between neighbors and volunteers
  • Promote a culture of repair and sustainability
  • Make repair accessible to everyone, regardless of income

How It Works

  1. Book a slot (optional) - Booking helps us bring the right tools, but walk-ins are welcome
  2. Bring your item - Come with your broken item and any relevant parts or accessories
  3. Work together - A volunteer repairer will work with you to fix your item
  4. Learn skills - You'll learn how to repair your item, not just watch it being fixed
  5. Take it home - Hopefully fixed, or at least with a better understanding of what's wrong

The Repair Café Movement

Repair Café is part of a global network of repair initiatives. There are now thousands of Repair Cafés around the world, all working towards the same goal: reducing waste and building stronger communities through repair.
